Seven Lions a.k.a Jeff Maltavo has been an interesting producer to watch grow in the last few months. His music is strongly rooted in dubstep tradition, but he also tries to bring in elements of trance and a progressive style to his sound. Until recently his releases have been hit or miss, but it appears he’s finally come out of his musical shell and established an attractive style. Relying on highly refined basses and complex composition, his tracks still pull in elements from many genres and manage to captivate listeners throughout their dramatic movements. Much like he did in his incredible remix of Oceanlab’s Sattelite (which I’ve also linked), Maltavo has brought his ever-improving talents to the Above and Beyond classic You Got to Go. The remix begins with the original trancy pads and soaring vocals of Zoe Johnston from the original mix, but soon begins to differ in both arrangement and beat. Before long it drops into a hard hitting, yet smooth, flurry of bass that perfectly complements the piece. This one certainly doesn't make it hard to get fully immersed!
If Seven Lions continues the style and ability he’s displayed in his last two remixes, he’s well on his way to becoming one of my favorite producers and could soon find himself in the national spotlight!
